Stitching for Christmas…

Over the past months I’ve shared quite a few snippets on Facebook and Instagram of my Christmassy works in progress. These secret projects were especially designed for the Fignberry Creations Stitching Soiree held on the 17th and 18th of this month. On both Saturday and Sunday, Lisa Cantlay of Fignberry Creations, Karen Martin of Mrs Martin’s Quilt Shop and I spent some quality time with a great group of “like minded, stitching souls”.

Fignberry Soiree - Melissa Grant & Lisa Cantlay

The days passed so quickly. I wish we could have stitched, laughed and chatted over cake much longer. I met some “online friends” face to face for the first time and made new friends too. Show and Tell on the Sunday was also truly inspiring… it really was a great weekend!

Everyone received 3 Christmas themed patterns from both Lisa and myself. Lisa designed an appliqued and embroidered stocking, a felt place-mat with applique and a wall hanging called “Love, Joy, Peace”.

I find it hard to settle on designs when stitching for Christmas, but wanted to share something dimensional, something a little traditional and a wreath stitchery.

The projects I came up with are “A Merry Dove ~ Jar and Candle Wrap” (click here for more photos)

and a framed piece called “Redwork Christmas Wreath” (click here for more photos).

I used two of my favourite design elements in these projects and was able to share mini tutorials for both over the weekend. Threaded Backstitch and Semi-detached Applique pop up quite frequently in my designing, so it was great to be able to demonstrate how easy they are to achieve. If you’d like a “mini tutorial” too, you can find one for Threaded Backstitch at the bottom of this post.

Thank you to Lisa and Karen for inviting me to the soiree. It was wonderful! Fignberry Creations are hosting another two soirees in 2016. Contact Lisa if you’d like to join in.

  1. Your projects are beautiful, Melissa. It’s hard to pick a favourite!

Thank you so much Christine. 🙂

  2. Love them all, but if I had to choose, at this minute, one to win it would be Spring Blush. Of course, I will favor a different one in 10 minutes…and yet another 10 minutes after that.
